Tasting Notes Rathfinny's Rose 2019 vintage strengthens this wine's status as one of the true icons of English sparkling. Rathfinny Wine Estate is an audacious and exciting player on the English wine scene, and their rose is full of verve, energy and zest for life. Made with 60% Pinot Noir 22% Chardonnay and 19% Pinot Meunier this rose is aged on the lees for an impressive 24 months. It evokes Provence clementine peel red cherries, raspberry sorbet, cranberries, redcurrants, red apple skin, hints of quince and a very British combo of strawberry cream and shortbread. Partner with sushi sashimi Vietnamese summer rolls, poached salmon and Jersey Royals crisp salads, rhubarb crumble, Eton Mess scones, canapes, sumptuous celebrations or as Decanter suggested, afternoon tea. Rathfinny Wine Estate has around 90 hectares of vines on Sussex's South Downs between Brighton and Eastbourne. This ambitious venture - the first vines were planted on the chalk soils behind the Seven Sisters in 2012 - is set to be 140 hectares when at full capacity, making it one of England's most significant vineyards. Set up by Mark and Sarah Driver - former hedge fund manager and solicitor respectively - and employing a winemaker from Champagne and a vineyard manager from New Zealand, Rathfinny will undoubtedly set the benchmark for English Sparkling Wine.
