Tasting Notes Grand Marnier's ultra-rare Cuvee du Centenaire Liqueur was launched in 1927 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of La Maison Marnier Lapostolle. It's an elegant blend of 82% Cognac - the majority coming from the highly prized Fine Champagne region and aged for around the same length of time as top XO Cognacs - and 18% orange liqueur. These two components are matured in oak for at least two years to come together in perfect harmony. First served in Villa Les Cedres on the Cote d'Azur now one of the most expensive houses on the planet this intense luscious and complex spirit deserves to be sipped neat and lightly chilled in only the most luxurious establishments. Louis-Alexandre Marnier Lapostolle was a man with a plan - to create a liqueur so grand that it would captivate the world for generations. In 1880 he combined the finest Cognac with bitter oranges from the Caribbean called Citrus Bigaradia. These rare exotic green oranges are dried in the hot sun locking in the most luxurious aromas and flavours. He named his new spirit Curacao but his good friend Cesar Ritz the founder of the eponymous hotel suggested that Grand Marnier would be "a grand name for a grand liqueur". Changing the bottle shape to one inspired by the silhouette of the traditional Cognac stills Louis-Alexandre's invention became the belle of La Belle Epoque and is still loved to this very day.
