Sakho joined Lens from Nimes in the summer of 1999 going on to make 62 league appearances for the club before leaving to join Marseille in the winter transfer window in the 2001-02 season. During the 1999-00 season Sakho helped Lens to a 5th place finish in French Division 1 which saw them qualify for the Intertoto Cup.
